Marine Division and CMID user community

“Calling all CMID users” – the new version of IMCA M 149 – Common marine inspection document – is about to be published and will replace the existing version on the IMCA CMID website on Monday 7 September 2015.  There have been a number of fundamental changes to the document and the eCMID database itself.  These changes, while significant, are relatively easy to understand and there had been no change to the access for the three groups currently served by CMID i.e. Vessel Operators, Inspectors and Clients. The key changes to issue or Version 9 as follows:
  • The main section of the CMID has been expanded and now has 15 Sections;
  • Supplements have been re-introduced to provide specific audit/inspection questions for 17 specific vessel types or functions such as DP, Pipe-Laying, and Survey etc.  These can be selected by the inspector prior to starting the audit.  They can also be added to during the audit and in the eCMID variant only, those supplements selected will appear in the report.  These will be numbered sequentially and not in the numbered order of the hardcopy printed document;
  • In order to encourage the use of eCMID, the downloadable version of the document on the eCMID website and the version available on the IMCA website will now carry a watermark stating that the document is for information only, and should not be used for the official report of vessel inspections;
  • There will be a box in which to record that the inspection have been carried out by an Accredited Vessel Inspector.  This Accreditation Scheme is managed by the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) and is recognised by IMCA.  Each Accredited Vessel Inspector (AVI) will be issued with an ID card and a personal number which will be annotated in the new version of CMID;
  • The ‘add photograph’ function to the eCMID had been expanded and also includes the Vessel Operator who can upload a photograph to demonstrate that a close-out action for a finding has been completed;
  • An ‘automatic publication of report’ function has been added to the eCMID which will take effect after 30 days from when the inspector uploads the report.  The Vessel Operator will receive email reminders that there is a report which requires their attention.  After this 30 day period the report will automatically become available on the eCMID database however, the Vessel Operator will still be able to make comments after this date;
  • User guides have been being updated but the eCMID report is intuitive and colour coded, red or green signals indicate whether sections have been completed or not.  The process by which a Vessel Operator permits eCMID access or by which an inspector downloads a CMID to conduct an audit has not changed;
  • There are some user interface changes in the eCMID database which have been added for user utility;
  • There are also some design improvements which had been added for usability and the website has been modernised;
  • In some cases selecting a ‘Yes’ response to a question will require the inspector to make a comment;
  • In general most ‘No’ responses will generate a ‘Finding’;
  • The Ship Certificate section (4) has been expanded;
  • The crew matrix has not been changed on this version but will be updated at the next version issue;
IMCA M 189 – Common marine inspection document for small workboats (Marine inspection for small workboats) – has not yet been updated but it is hoped to have revised this by November.
