Dynamic positioning (DP) system failure
IMCA has received information from a member about an incident involving the DP system aboard one of its vessels. Because of the resulting inherent failure possibility, the company has identified the need to modify the software installed in the DP systems on several vessels within its fleet. The DP manufacturer has issued a technical bulletin relating to this (attached).
It is felt that the serious nature of this incident made it important to share this information as a safety flash and also as information note Dynamic Positioning System Failure.
