IMCA to hold Hong Kong-based marine contractors briefing meeting

Published on 31 March 2016

With three highly relevant presentations; a general update on activities of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA); and a detailed briefing on the activities of all six of the global association’s divisional activities, the up-coming Asia-Pacific Section meeting in Hong Kong on 6 April provides a one-stop briefing for members and non-members alike.

“IMCA is the global authority in the marine contracting industry, and Denis Welch our Regional Director Asia-Pacific and I are looking forward to bringing members in the Asia-Pacific Section, their guests and others interested in our work up-to-date on our activities,” explains Chief Executive, Allen Leatt.

“IMCA promotes fit-for-purpose regulations and delivers authoritative technical practises designed to ensure safe and cost-effective working solutions for all involved in marine contracting; and in challenging times for the offshore oil and gas industry in particular has a vital role to play, I am looking forward to sharing news of our activities with members.

“Our April meeting in Hong Kong not only provides a marvellous opportunity to meet with members from throughout the region, and for them to network, but helps us bring them up to speed. Our programme, which starts at 09:00 and finishes at 15:30, comprises a general update on activity; a worldwide update by regional members on activity within our Competence & Training, and Safety, Environment & Legislation core divisions; and our Diving, Marine, Offshore Survey and Remote Systems and ROV technical divisions; and, after a networking lunch, three topical presentations that demonstrate the breadth of activities undertaken by our members.”

The first of the presentations is on ‘The raising of theCosta Concordia, an offshore operation’ and will be delivered by Michael Mallin of Hill Dickinson Hong Kong Solicitors. Then Joe Monk of Fugro TSM will speak on ‘Establishing and implementing a competence scheme based on the IMCA framework’; and Dr Phil Thompson and Dr Louise Ledgard of BMT Ship & Coastal Dynamics will be talking about ‘Understanding the Operational Environment of FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas)’.

The meeting is free to attend, but registration via events@imca-int.com is essential. The full programme is available on the IMCA website at www.imca-int.com as is further information on the association’s activities on behalf of its 1,000+ members in over 60 countries. The association has LinkedIn and Facebook groups and its Twitter handle is @IMCAint
